The Manor House Reviews

The location was lovely and we had a meal in the pub across the road which was superb. The character of the house was lovely although a bit dark on cloudy days. The beds were very comfortable and bed linen and towels were excellent. The only 2 'problems' we encountered were there were not enough suitable dining chairs and the heating was a bit hit and miss leaving us cold most evenings as it went off too early and we were not able to adjust the settings although there was a wood burner in the front room but not in the back room where we spent every evening as it was more comfortable seating. The garden was beautiful and plenty of garden furniture.

The Manor House is a spacious, characterful period house in a lovely area with great outdoor space, views and a pub opposite. The 6 bedrooms, two of which had single and pull out beds, had the flexible sleeping arrangements we needed as a mix of couples, singles, families and a dog. The kitchen is very well equipped. The games cupboard and play facilities in the outside space which had a broken climbing frame could do with updating. If you want to use the pull out beds let the owner know in advance, as these are not made up unless requested though someone came over to sort within 20 minutes when I called.
This is a beautiful grade two listed property in the Derbyshire countryside. There was plenty of space for our mixed ages group party. The house was warm downstairs due to the underfloor heating and eventually upstairs as well. The kitchen is well equipped for a large group and the welcome package was good. Due to the weather there was water ingress through some of the windows and through the wall in the top bedroom. The.manager had left towels to help deal with this. There is ample parking space outside. Good location for the many attractions in the area.
Charming spacious period property. We loved the original features and quirkiness of uneven floors etc. Kitchen was very well appointed and equipped and flowed into the dining area which created a great social hub. The bedrooms were all of a good size and very comfortable. Garden and grounds with their lovely views were appreciated.
We spent a really enjoyable long weekend at the Manor House with a party of 11. The house was really spacious and extremely clean, lovely comfortable beds and very atmospheric. Kitchen was brilliantly kitted out, down to a meat thermometer. The house is in a lovely position with walking on the doorstep. Was a pity we couldnt stay longer, thank you!
Amanda
We arrived in one of the worst storms of the year. The house was welcoming and warm. All nine of us had arrived by early evening and we all said how brilliant the house was. Everything you needed was there and all in good order. A wonderful time was had by all. Thank you
Edward
Lovely large house,loved the place.

My family of 9 met from different parts of the country at the Manor House for a weekend of talking, fun and laughter. The house was wonderful, it was everything we could have wished for. It was so interesting and authentic being su h and old place. It was warm and the kitchen especially was lovely. We would definitely go back there.
Lovely cottage , very quirky plenty of pots, pans etc for cooking meals for the 9 of us. Located near a wonderful pub The crown inn.we did have a couple of maintenance problems the fan oven wasnt working on arrival and the kitchen tap had problems.we reported these and the same day an engineer arrived and fixed both problems.
Ideal accomodation for a large multi generational group. Gardens were fantastic. Everything we needed could be found in the property. Pub opposite was very handy. Some minor difficulties with wheelchair user independently navigating the threshold to the ground floor bedroom . All in all a great stay and would visit again.
Beautiful old house in wonderful countryside. Booked for a family holiday to celebrate big birthdays. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. Very convenient for Alton Towers and surrounding towns but quiet and peaceful. The pub across the road served us all a superb meal on our last night. Highly recommended.

We fell in love with the manor house. It's absolutely stunning. Was just as described if not better. Plenty of room stunning surroundings and just the most magical house. Will definitely stay here again.
Helena
Loved the place! And service via email and phone. All top notch. Many thanks and kindest regards to you

Arrived to a beautiful clean and warm Manor House Everything you could wish for was catered for. On another note, might we suggest a mirror in the downstairs Bedroom and in the downstairs shower room a toilet roll holder and a hook to hang your clothes on All in all a lovely weekend away
Booked this house as a family get together as we all live in different parts of Uk. Worked out perfectly. Lots of space with 2 living rooms. Kitchen and bathrooms are all of a high standard and kitchen was impressively stocked with plenty of crockery, cooking equipment and space to cook and entertain. Outside space was fab. Spent a whole day playing garden games and sitting in the sunshine catching up. Lovely walks from here to. Great communication with host. Brilliant pub directly opposite serving best Sunday roast ever ! Only things for improvement is tv lounge would really benefit from a new sofa no mirrors in some of the bedrooms and mattress in one bedroom Could do with being replaced. We all live in modern houses so It was lovely to spend a week In such an old house with its quirks and uneven floors. Would definitely return and glad to see the owner investing in the property but keeping it true to its heritage.
Great location, close to Alton Towers and opposite a nice pub. Was extremely hot and stuffy as summer time, and very few windows opened to allow fresh air. There were fans, but they just blew the hot air about. This meant it felt very musty and we left a night early as we could not sleep very well due to the heat and lack of fresh air in the house. Such a shame, as otherwise it was an amazing place to stay, very grand and with well equipped kitched. If windows could be opened it would have been perfect.
Interesting house in a great location and opposite a lovely pub, Perfect
This was a lovely property for a family holiday, with pets . Comfortable , but not so smart that we couldn't have fun in the house, which we took full advantage of. Good selection of toys and games in the cupboard and the stairgate meant it was easy to keep the dog downstairs. Unfortunately , the garden wasn't entirely enclosed in any area, so we couldn't let the dog roam around. The tumble dryer was broken and we were disappointed there wasn't a barbecue, although there was a big bag of charcoal! In all, it was a great property, with plenty to do in the area.
Lovely property. Well equipped kitchen unfortunately no roasting tins or baking trays. Dishwasher didn't work and couldn't be repaired during our stay. Good quality bed linen and excellent water pressure in bathrooms. However the two main lounges are in desperate need of some TLC. Sadly this let the property down for us. Photos available if required.
We were anticipating our 83 year old mother would be able to use the downstairs bedroom advertised as disabled access but the distance to the toilet made this impractical for her. The uneven floorboards on the first floor and landing was a danger for her and perhaps this should be highlighted more.
Outstanding. We were a family of 8 adults and 4 children together for a special occasion. It was like staying in a National Trust property. Never stopped anywhere like it before. Bedrooms and all rooms were huge and very tastefully decorated. Beds were super comfy and lots of places to sit and relax. Spotlessly clean and very well maintained with one exception the induction hob wasn't working. We were informed about this beforehand and temporary arrangements made for us so we changed our meal plan. Obviously this could be a big issue but for us it was not. The only other negative was the top floor bedroom. Great for the kids but we happened to be there on the rare occasion of a lovely summer weekend and the room was extremely warm. A cooling aircon unit in this room is a must! The gardendrive is well laid out, very peaceful, well maintained and with ample tables and chairs all of which were well used. The property is across the road from the Crown Inn a lovely pub serving excellent food very busy so you need to book and both are situated in a lovely little village. I've never written this before but yes I would go back.
The Manor was fabulous, such a beautiful house with so much history, it was a joy to spend the weekend there with family. The Manor was so well equipped, clean and comfortable. With so many quirks of the old building to enjoy, the wonky floors, doors that didnt fit and if course the beautiful beams. We organised ourselves, a 1920s murder mystery which fitted the location perfectly. I have no complaints about this beautiful house. Only one point, our party was aged 30 up to 85 and everyone said they would have benefited with fans in the bedrooms. The windows are original leaded so can understand the secondary glazing but in the bedrooms there was very little air. Thanks again for a great stay
A lovely family stay in a beautiful location. I will definitely keep this house in mind for future stays.
Great house for large family gathering. More child friendly than expected with large room to play in. Would be lovely in the summer with the large garden and nice pub literally across the road. The wi fi isn't great but that's a good thing as it forced people to put their devices away. I would definitely stop here again but if your over 6ft mind your head, lots of low beams and doors.
Fabulous quirky property. Very spacious and warm. Accommodated our toddler grandson and a very sensitive Viszla extremely well. Panelled bedroom like being on a ship with wonky floorboards and doors . The goat got a nasty suprise when we appeared in the garden but managed to hop over the gate into its proper field before the dog could say hello. Very well equipped with a small supply of tea and coffeebig bottle milk left for us in the fridge. Obviously a much loved family home and not a sterile holiday venue.
Charlotte
Amazing house, very clean. Think the uneven floors helped reduce the alcohol!!!the cistern on the upstairs toilet not the bathroom didn't always refill so needed a jiggle. Good provision of cot, high chair, plastic crockery, toys, dishwasher tablets. Brill cookware we always bring good knives but didn't need too sharp! Lovely garden kids loved the slide despite the wet! The goat from the field nearby jumped through the compost bin into the garden again kids loved it!! Very very very warm house.
Debbie
Beautiful house with a fabulous mix of old and new. Such charming character but with lovely modern bathrooms and kitchen. Temperature was perfect throughout the stay in January. Added bonus of the lovely Pub across the road. Would definitely recommend
We had a lovely family stay at the Manor House. Plenty of room for all of us in this impressive old house, full of character. Village is lovely and we enjoyed a drink at the pub across the road. We did a couple of nearby walks in the Rolling countryside which we enjoyed despite the rain. Would definitely recommend a stay here.
Another great stay at The Manor House. We were a group of 4 families with young children and the space worked great. Both indoors and outdoors there was plenty of space for everyone. The children loved the garden and the secret toy cupboard! Adults loved the very well equipped kitchen and great dining space for eating, socialising and board games. The house really had everything you could need. Location wise is fantastic. We had a Tesco delivery but topped up at Ashborne shops only a few miles away. We all enjoyed days out at Peak Wildlife Park and Sudbury Hall. We will definitely be back. Thank you again.
Jackie
Would highly recommend this property. Several days before arrival, we received a comprehensive information pack the detailed instructions on how to find the property were a big help for those guests whose satnav took them to the school! The house is full of charm with many original features, yet has modern kitchen, bathrooms etc. The kitchen was very well equipped and the welcome pack, including doggy treats, was much appreciated. There was plenty of space for our party of 10 plus 2 dogs, and the separate sitting rooms were great for a group that size. The photos don't do justice to the garden, which is extensive and well maintained. There is a dog friendly pub over the road which serves good food. I'm not sure why Sykes advertises this property as having 2 bathrooms there are definitely 3! The description also doesn't mention the rather lovely stairgate which, while not at the foot of the stairs so not perfect for babiestoddlers, keeps the dogs downstairs.
What an absolutely lovely property! Set in an idyllic location, with a host of charm and beautiful character this house was perfect for out family and friends weekend away. Everything was finished to a high standard, it has everything you need. We loved the quirkiness of the property. Also, huge bonus of a fabulous pub just over the road!!! Only issue is the heat and some rooms have sealed windows so it gets extremely hot. And it may have been nice to have a games room instead of 2 sitting rooms, however we would come back again in a heartbeat! Thank you.
What an amazing house. The photos don't actually do the quality, space and cleanliness of this house justice. Beautiful setting in a little village pub spitting distance with lovely garden space for dining outside and children to play. Well equipped kitchen. Toy cupboard much appreciated. For our group of 9 adults, 2 kids and 3 babies it was a perfect find. We'll be staying again!
Matthew
Amazing property set in small village in Beautiful countryside. Perfectly peaceful in late May early June. Plenty to do within short drive. House is stocked with almost anything you may need. 65 television broke down whilst we were there and was replaced the next day so great service! Had such a lovely time Im almost reluctant to leave this review in case its booked up next time we want to visit!
What a beautiful and handsome old property this is, with its quirks and history. Despite the age of the property the key facilities such as the kitchen and bathrooms were modern and fully equipped. Comfy beds made for a good nights sleep and lovely back garden was a lovely place to sit and unwind after a busy day at near by Alton Towers where me and my family of 9 were for the weekend. Only suggestion I would make is to put more sofasseating in one of the 2 lounges not enough for more than 6 and change the other into a games room pool table, darts etc, as its a shame we didnt use the other room as we all wanted to spend the time together and not be split into 2 rooms just so we can sit down. Aside from that, we loved our stay and will be back !
Fabulous character and comfortable house so well equipped and never cold even though the weather was chilly. Ty
Amazing property for a birthday gathering. Had everything we could need and to have such a nice pub across the road was a bonus.
Caroline
We were very happy with the property. It is in a great location and provided ample comfortable accommodation. There are just a few suggestions The available beds and layout needs updating specifically the trundle beds that we needed to make use of because not all our guests were in couples. The details indicated no baby facilities in actual fact there was a high chair and a travel cot so I need not have brought and purchased! these There was no pepper mill bizarrely although there was a container of peppercorns! There was no indication of what to do with the recycling although separate bins were provided. We generated a lot over the holiday period and could find nowhere nearby to take it. Otherwise the property was was well equipped, warm and a most interesting property to host a large family gathering over New Year, Thank you.
Matthew
Gorgeous property full of character with potential of being 5. Overall we had a fantastic stay but a few things bothered us. Here are the things that could be improved. Full replacement of range oven. We were told the day before the hob was broken. This was a nightmare when cooking for 10 people. We were given a late check out as a gesture of goodwill which was no good to us as we had to go back to work. The x2 temporary hob plates were not great but we had no choice. We relied more on the oven which wasnt super reliable either uneven heat etc. Maybe just replace the whole thing?! Living room arrangements, the 1 with the working chimney is the one we used the most as it had the big tv and log burner in it. There are 2 sofas and 1 big bean bag, we were a group of 10 so it always meant a few people were sat on the floor or beanbag which is not ideal. We wanted to sit as a group and felt like this set up was better for a group of 6 adults please look at this as at full capacity it would be even worse groups dont always want to sit in separate rooms. The freestanding bath was something a lot of us wanted to use but it isnt installed at level so it wobbles from side to side, doesnt feel safe, again please look into this.
Alison
A wonderful property with great facilities. We cooked our pre Christmas dinner for 11. Pub over the road. We are going to book again. Thank you for a great property. It made our stay extra special. Alison
