Torestyn Reviews

Jennifer
The property was as described and we were able to host 3 families together in the house without feeling like we were on toonof each other. The only problem we encountered was the house next door was hosting a party. They had hired a hot tub and therefore spent hours outside till 230 in the morning. Because the properties are so close the noise kept lots of us up. It would be helpful if guests in both houses were asked to be considerate of noise after 10pm.
The accommodation was very good for what we needed on this short stay large ... The accommodation was very good for what we needed on this short stay large enough for 11 of us which was one of the main issues rooms were spacious enough so no criticism there I would however say that the property itself needs a lot of TLC to get anything higher than the 3 stars I have given it Parking of our 3 cars was tight was finally ok but required a lot of negotiating with the neighbours who had 4 cars it was achieved but space is at a premium
We return every year around the same dates. It starts our Christmas! The house is situated perfectly for what we like to do over the weekend. It is basic accommodation which is what we want for this type of weekend. Always nice and warm, plenty of sofa space for all. We are finding the sofas difficult to get out of these days. A mix of very well used sofas and us getting old! Well equipped for our requirements although there seemed a shortage of tea spoons this year? Perfectly placed for Bakewell, Chatsworth etc. Parking is a little tight but weve never had a problem. Always speak with the neighbours to ensure we are all ok parking wise. I shall be booking again, wont be looking anywhere else as other than a few little niggles its perfect for us
The cottage is ideally placed to explore the peaks. It was very clean and comfortable with ample room for our family and homely enough for us not to be stressing about the damage 2 very young boys could do! The garden was lovely for the boys once the grass had been mown. Just a recommendation that the garden chairs and cushions cd do with updating. The house is on the edge of the village and quite away from shops. Recommend you stop off for supplies on way home in car after day out. The owner was quick to respond to any queries we had. All in all we had a lovely time and really enjoyed our stay at Torestyn.

The house itself was great. Large with good number of bathrooms. Garden was great and we did have some weather to enjoy it. However there were a few negatives for us and a few touches that could make the place better The responsiveness of the host was rubbish. Only after multiple calls, texts and a call to Sykes did we get the check in instructions an hour after check in time. I then sent a message asking about recycling and did not get a reply at all. Some of the bedding and towels were thread bare. Dining room chairs were pretty minging seat leather coming away. Dust behind and under settees was pretty bad we had to move to retrieve kids toy. The back two bedrooms really need some blinds.
Rachel
Amazing spacious house which had everything we needed and was clean and comfy. Location was great for getting to and from Matlock. Had a lovely stay
Lovely large property. Well catered for large family.
We fitted 8 adults & 4 children, age 59 in the 5 bedroom house. The garden was great for the kids whether for football or water fights. Dining room could fit us all but room narrow and bottle necks both sides, particularly by the door. Some of the kitchen utensils ie saucepans should have been changed, the Teflon surface long since worn away and the kitchen scissors handle was broken, replaced on request. Most things provided but it was useful to bring tin foil, cling film & an ice tray. We loved the plentiful birds in the high hedges. Road noise due being on the A6. We all missed the entrance to the car park as had not fully absorbed the joining instructions. Enjoyed local attractions and walks. Car essential, not much in easy walking distance. Decoration a bit old fashioned. The house is grand but could do more with it. So a great area and a perfectly nice house which could be more attractive with a little effort.
Very high specification accommodation. Spacious, warm, comfortable. Good location.
This is a lovely house. It pretty much matched upto precious reviews. All rooms were clean and tidy. Lovely and warm too. Washer and driver were very useful. The only almost catastrophic! issue was on arrival at the property we could not get in. I had telephoned the owners on both numbers 3 days before arrival. Then messaged the day before. Still no answer or reply. Had to google an actual phone number for Sykes who said they would try and contact the owner. Ten minutes after calling sykes, the owner called with the code to the key safe. So it was a bit stressful just getting in, but hope this will be a one off and the owners will monitor their messages more frequently in future.

Such a lovely property to spend Christmas in, this was our first ever trip away for Christmas and 11 of us stayed here 6 adults & 5 children ages 213 years. We were a little anxious whether there would be enough plates, pots, cutlery, glasses etc that you need for Christmas day but they did not disappoint we never at any point though oh we could do with more of this we actually fed 13 on Christmas day as we had our grandparents and the table fit everyone round comfortably. The property itself is next to quite a busy main road but you do not hear much noise from the road whilst in the house unless you have a window open it was very warm and plenty of seating for all. The property have 2 bathrooms, 1 ensuite and a downstairs WC which was just perfect for the amount of people we had stopping. The only downside was we could hear ever noise in the house whether you were downstairs or on the top floor we could hear every movement, cough or laugh. The beds were okay but quite creaky... I do think some parts of the property require a little TLC the showers especially but saying thus everything was as clean as possible and the property smelt clean. The parking was perfect for us we had a van and x2 4X4's, you share the drive way with next door who also can fit 3 cars in the parking area. We didn't have any issues manoeuvring and getting onoff the property. The property also has a garage you can use which has a fridge in there which we didn't use but a perfect addition especially if you have a lot of people stopping with you. There is a small fridge in the kitchen itself and a bigger single standing fridge freezer in the understand cupboard. Happy with our stay and would stay again. The Spencers & Extended Family x

We had a wonderful stay and cant recommend enough. The cottage had ample parking and a beautiful view, and was just a short drive from Chatsworth House, Matlock and Bakewell. The inside was clean and spacious, and well definitely be back!
I have stayed at this property many times and have a booking in place for early next year next door. For the groups of friends I go with, the distance is great for us, less than an hour travelling time as some of our group still work. The location generally allows us to visit a handful of places that we like to visit including Bakewell and Chatsworth. The house has all we need including separate beds for all 8 ladies. A well equipped kitchen and a lounge we can all sit comfortably together. Its basic but suits us perfectly. We booked again for next year while still in the house this time. Plenty of parking and owners always great if communication is needed
Had a wonderful time, lovely house and enjoyed spending time away with family.

We had a lovely stay in Torestyn. It was in a fantastic location, comfortable and spacious for 11 of us. We couldve done with a few more glasses, tea towels, a wok and some sharper knives in the kitchen as well as having tea and coffee already there. Other than that it was a fantastic place, there was very little noise pollution and perfectly located. Walking to the Square and Compass pub was a particular highlight.
Torestyn was one of the best holiday cottages I have ever booked and the location was perfect for 5 ladies walking the Pilgrim trail. The cottage was spacious, extremely comfortable and very clean. We were able to relax in the evening and the kitchen was well fitted to enable us to cook a meal and eat around the large dining table. The owner Andy gave us clear instructions on how to find the property and subsequently went out of his way to return two personal items which we left behind on our reluctant departure.
Patricia
Torestyn is a lovely house in the heart of a fabulous area. It was ideal for our long weekend of a group of 9 adult cyclists and walkers as routes are on the doorstep. Also convenient for cafes etc. The house itself had garage storage space for our bikes . The bedroom options suited us as a group and were attractive and comfortable . There is a bathroom on each floor including one ensuite so no queues in the morning. The kitchen is well equipped and the lounge has plenty of sofas for exhausted cyclists at the end of the day.
Graham
Very spacious property. Very good bathroom provision. If the Lillies had not been empty during our stay, parking of our 9 seater van might have been an issue. It is quite awkward to turn in and out of the courtyard area with a large vehicle. The property could have benefitted from a deep clean as we had small children who dropped things under settees and behind beds which and down seat cushions which had clearly not been recently cleaned. It would have also been useful to have more large mixing bowls in the kitchen for food preparation for the 11 of us.
Caroline
Cottage was lovely and clean. With enough seating and plenty of utensils and crockery was very good in every way
What a wonderful property. Had everything we needed and more. More than adequate seating in the lounge with an extendable table for all 11 of us to dine together. The kids really enjoyed their stay also, we had 5 young ones with us on the trip and they loved the rooms they stayed in. Absolutely no negatives, very warm, very clean and very comfortable. Thank you so much!
Excellent property. Very clean and comfortable. Lovely garden. We all enjoyed our stay and would throughly recommend it to friends and family. Very handy for many attractions and spectacular walks.

It was great staycation. I wish we could have spent more time there. The property is very well maintained and have most essential stuff for a big family. I would recommend this property if someone want to spend a good time in peak district.
The cottage was perfect for our family getaway. Andy one of the owners was extremely helpful. The rooms were spacious and comfortable. We had fresh bed linen and towels. We had a young baby with us and the cot was perfect. There was much more cutlery than we expected which was perfect. The garden is much bigger and spacious than the images! The book was informative enough regarding our stay. Some of the guests travelled from London so the facilities were very welcoming. Cant thank the owners enough for allowing us to have such a pleasant stay! Wish we could have personally thanked them. One of our guest forgot their AirPods and the owners were so kind to post it back to us! We will definitely come back to this place once we plan another getaway to the Peak District.
Viviene
This property was ideal for our us, with 3 generations under the same roof ranging from 10 years old to 76. We were all very comfortable in the house. Everything we required was provided.
We had a lovely stay. House was very well equipped and correspondence between the owner and ourselves excellent. A couple of light bulbs had blown and the ensuite shower seemed to have a leak, probably just the sealant needs looking at. House was in a great location for accessing the Derbyshire sights.
Need mirrors in the bedrooms
A week spent with family and Torestyn offered everything we needed, plenty of space and the facilities were ideal. Ideal location for exploring the area. We will certainly use this house again. Thank you Andy.
My second visit of the year. An all adult stay 7 ensured we had a comfortable stay, plenty of room and space throughout. We moved the lounge furniture a little to suit the group. Everyone together, good view of tv etc. Well equipped kitchen a few more dishesbowls would be nice, 2 fridges ensures plenty of cool space for both food and drinks. additional fridge in the garage if needed Little problem with the oven which we reported as we were preparing to leave. Before we left, a new oven had been ordered. Bedrooms very comfortable and spacious. 2 showers 1 ensuite both really good showers. Another shower over the 2nd bath would be useful. House very warm, temperature easy to change and plenty of hot water. Close to many great places to visit, ideal spot. We woke to snow and a very helpful man clearing the path. THANK YOU! Snow and ice again on the day we left. Again, a very big thank you for all your help with the car and ensuring we were safe when leaving. Already booked again for next year!
We had a fabulous family holiday with three generations. There is so much to do in the area we will be back to do some more. Abseiling, kayaking, cycling, walking, etc. Lovely location, views behind house lovely, nice size and contained garden. Traffic noise could be a problem but this is pointed out in the information before you book, not a problem for us. Would recommend.
Stephen
Lovely, comfortable property and spotlessly clean and really well equipped. We had a great time! Maybe worth a mention that the property is situated adjacent to a fairly busy road into Matlock.
J Lydia
I have to say the owner Andy Ashbrook has been so generous and helpful during our stay. I have messaged him personally to let him know that his cottage is absolutely beautiful and each one of us have loved and enjoyed our stay at his cottage. The cottage is in the Heart of all sight seeing spots. We have all had a wonderful time. Thank you.
We expected to ring owners, but eventually found that a text worked. It would be useful to know in advance, as response only received 36 hours before we left home. The only issue we had with the house was the dining chairs need pads, as they screeched whenever you moved them. The place was lovely and warm, perhaps too much for those sleeping on the upper floor! Our daughter and soninlaw had the sky lights open to let the heat out on the first night, and we turned the thermostats down subsequently. It worked well for us. No obvious Covid 19 precautions in place, again it would be useful to know as we carried extra in our luggage which we did not need.
The house is tired probably of having so many people in it and only getting a quick clean periodically. A good clean is required, and some paintwork needs refreshing. Some light bulbs need replacing and the toaster has 50 not working. But the house is a quality build and good fixtures and fittings but some furniture at end of life and the underfloor heating downstairs keeps the whole place warm. Although plenty of space upstairs for 12 to sleep, the downstairs is too small for this many people. As COVID stopped most of our party attending, the wife and I had acres of space !
William
Absolutely fantastic week at Torestyn Darley Dale. The house was fantastic with brilliant facilities and really exceeded our expectations. The house is in an ideal location to visit the many attractions and we were so lucky with the September weather, a gloriously sunny week. Also ideal for children, there are 2 lovely parks literally minutes away,a couple of hidden gems! Highly recommended and we so hope we can come and stay again very soon!!
Excellent Holiday with my family. We had a couple of special requests and they were very accommodating.
This was for a family celebration of my younger son's 30th birthday. The house had a perfect combination of rooms and beds for adults and children and having 4 vehicles to park, it was one of the few places in the area that offered parking to reflect the number of guests. Lots of space in the sitting room, a very well equipped kitchen and plenty of extra games, books etc. The bedrooms were lovely and the kids loved the garden. The dining chairs could do with a bit of a freshen up but it certainly wasn't an issue. The one thing I think would be a good idea is a light for the outside steps, we used our phone torches to see down the steps. I commend Andy and his wife on being very accommodating with arrival and leaving times. We have a family who operate at different speeds and who don't seem to work in the same time frame as me!!! We were able to leave a bit later which was a massive help. We had a great time, loved having the bus stop just outside the house for our trip into Matlock and would definitely visit again. Stayed here with 8 other ladies and we couldn't fault it. The listing on sykes was very accurate, the communication from the owner was good and the informtation provided to find the place was very helpful. The cottage itself is absolutely beautiful very very spacious and modern, lots provided which u dont often find in other cottages. Very clean, neat & tidy comfortable beds and sofas. All the guests commented they would happily live there. Would highly recommend.
Victoria
Cottage was great, nice large spaces and enough room for everyone. It's well located and plenty of parking. Beds and sofas very comfortable and nice outdoor area. Only thing I would suggest is that the non stick pans are replaced they have seen better days coating scratched and peeling off, and the knives need a sharpen. Would be good to have some cupboard essentials salt, pepper, oil, cling film, foil etc and more than one dustbin liner. This was the perfect location for meeting friends in various geographical locations and we were all very happy with it. We will be booking again next year. Many thanks
