Millward House Reviews

As a group of 3 couples we were delighted with our stay at the property. During the heatwave we found the interior of the property to be cool and relaxing. There was a garden umbrella and choice of seating areas. Post office, shop, cafe and pub were all a short walk. The cycling terrain was challenging but rewarding. Lots of places to visit. Would definitely recommend it.
Lovely place, maybe more rustic than appears in the photos be aware of uneven flooring in the hallway but very comfortable and homely with good kitchen facilities. We loved the OS map wallpaper and spent ages consulting! Managed to get outside to catch the morning sunshine for a coffee in the garden. Great location, helpful locals, good local walks and recommend Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese Inn, 2 doors down. Would happily return.
Lovely house. Very spacious and tastefully decorated. Loved the Ordnance Survey map wallpaper in the dining room which allowed us to plan some nice walks. The wood burning stove was a lovely touch. Although the central heating was very easy to use and ensured a cosy house for our stay.
Weve just come back from staying at Millward House for Christmas and it was amazing! Great location, so comfy and warm. The house was decorated for Christmas.

We had a three night stay in this lovely spacious cottage it had everything you need. Short drive to Bakewell and Buxton and a great pub just down the street.
Milward house is a very well equipped and comfortable house . Beds comfortable too. Th Ye olde Cheddar cheese was excellent service great portions huge . Weather appalling . But we made the best of it .
We had a wonderful stay at Millward House in Longnor. The house is very large and suited our needs perfectly plenty of space for everyone to relax and enjoy. Everything was spotlessly clean, the beds were incredibly comfortable and the showers were lovely and hot. We also appreciated the beautiful decor and all the thoughtful extra touches that made it feel so welcoming. Thank you for a fantastic stay wed love to come back.
A lovely week spend in a beautiful home, lots of little additions make it feel very homely. The pub a few doors along is worth a visit for Sunday lunch, but definitely book before hand. The village itself has everything and the children enjoyed the playpark. Perfect location to explore the area highly recommend Chatsworth house, gardens, farm & adventure playpark with a trip to Bakewell to pick up puddingstarts. Despite the change in weather the house was always warm when we returned after days out & enjoyed sitting in front of the wood burner in the evening. We have stayed in numerous cottages in the area over the years but this is by far our favourite, we will book again.
We had a wonderful 10 days at the property, which was ideally located close to amenities, walks and other attractions. The house was great for our family travelling from overseas, with lots of space to relax, and all the necessary things to make a temporary home. We would definitely stay again so highly recommend.
Fabulous location and used and enjoyed local facilities in Village. House beginning to look a bit shabby. Kitchen floor needs attention. Would prefer curtains in Kitchen window as we had to keep clearing sill to close shutters. Floor rugs kept moving and we removed them as they were a slip hazard. Bath taps on first floor needs attention tightening up.
The property itself was lovely overall but tired in places, but this did not effect our stay. .. The kitchen flooring really should be replaced as it is a trip hazard...

This was a beautiful property in a beautiful area. The little touches were brilliant. 30 mins from Alton Towers, 15 mins from Buxton with a fab park. Next to Ye Olde Cheshire cheese in. A lovely church St Bartholemew's. A local store. A chip shop. Gorgeous walks. 30 mins from Bakewell. Its a 3 storey house so plenty of stairs but comfortably sleeps 78.
Absolutely lovely cottage. Lovely big rooms and furnished tonight standard. Set in a quite small village, which had a pub, fish and chip shop, post office, bakery and a shop. Location was great as less than ten miles to Buxton and Bakewell. Highly recommend and we will return.
Alanah
We loved Millward house. It was perfect for us. The games kept our granddaughters happy and the outside space was perfect for a drink on the evening. The bedrooms and bathrooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. The lemon drizzle cake was also an added bonus. The only thing that would have made the stay in the Peak District perfect would have been some information for EV drivers. We spent a very frustrating time trying to find chargers. And with the lack of service on some places it was impossible to get a signal to get access to the chargers we did find!!
Jennifer
Lovely, spacious, comfortable cottage in a great location. Good beds, good bathrooms, great kitchen. We also enjoyed the pretty outside space. Notes to owners Minor quibbles The tin opener doesnt work properly 13.5 tog duvet is far too warm for summer. At the end of the week there was a mysterious outbreak of flies on the living room window.
We had a great 2 weeks here. The property was very clean and comfortable with excellent facilities. The beds were particularly comfortable. There is parking space outside, or if taken, the market square car park less than 100 yards away. The owners were very helpful with the minor queries we had. Longnor is an active historic village with a pub, convenience shop and post office on the doorstep, conveniently situated for exploring the attractions of the Peak District. We would happily stay here again.
Philip
We enjoyed the log burner
Sharon
We had a great time staying the house. Very comfortable, spacious and conveniently situated within a few minutes of the local pub where we went for our evening meal. The pub stopped serving food at 7.30pm. Walks straight from the doorstep which was great. We had to park one car on the free car park area in the village but it was no problem. Would definitely recommend and come back again.
Kathleen
Lovely place fantastic kitchen diner & enjoyed staying in the village. welcome gift of lemon drizzle cake & milk . Thanks as that's my favourite cake
Your fabulous house was perfect for our family break. Thank you.
Lovely property. Very well equipped and clean. The road can be a bit noisy early in the morning not a problem if you are getting up for dog walks. Maybe check with the fish and chip shop beforehand to see if they are open, if you are relying on that. The pub is very close and parking was not a problem.
Had a great weeks stay at Millward House, warm house with an amazing kitchen, comfy beds, huge bathrooms lovely large dining table for you all to eat at and the cozy lounge with log burner. The pub is next door but one and does amazing food if you do not want to cook or fancy a beer. 100 the perfect place to stay and would absolutely love to come back.
Lovely property with a great kitchen and a good location, all our family enjoyed staying there. They had a great time playing the football game and we enjoyed the lovely cake. Longnor very friendly village with a great fish & chips shop, pub, general stores and sweet shop. Thank you very much for our stay.
We have just spent a week in Longnor, at Millward House. Longnor is a quaint village, with a good pub, small shops & cafe. Lots of walks to do from the front door. We had ample room to park 3 cars outside the house all week in August. If not, there is parking in the squaroe or the road at the back. The house itself is as shown in the pictures, very well equipped with everything you could possibly need. Very clean, extremely comfortable beds, excellent showers, permanent supply of hot water. Enclosed rear garden was brilliant for the dogs. We would thoroughly recommend a stay here and we are very likely to return.
Nicola
Millward house was lovely. The only complaints I had was that it said on the Sykes website there were two parking places outside the house. This is not accurate and we were never able to part two cars outside.,
Wonderful cottage in lovely village. Very clean and comfortable. Needs two more comfortable chairs in lounge rather than the pew but minor issue
Lovely property for a family escape for a few days spacious and well equipped, and right next to the pub with good food and beer. Well located in the Peaks to access all areas too. We may well return!
Timothy
Had a lovely stay beautiful cottage would definitely recommend and stay again.
Nice clean property, with excellent facilities including the wood burner. It was perfect for our group which consisted of four retired couples. The location was ideal with several walks and attractions within easy reach either on foot or via car. The local pub, 50 yards away, was a huge bonus and the staff were great and the beer and food even better. John and Avril were incredible helpful and on hand, via text, to assist if needed.
We stayed at this lovely cottage over Christmas. It was beautifully decorated and felt very festive. The beds are all really comfy, plenty of room in the lounge and round the dining table. The woodburner was fab got a bit too warm for some of us, but perfect for the older relatives! Lots of games and books to keep you entertained. The kitchen is really well equipped and the range stove is great to cook with. Our Christmas meal was a triumph. The local area is very picturesque. The local pub is great even better, it's so close. John and Avril are very welcoming hosts, thank you for the treats you left us and thank you for a really lovely stay in your beautiful house.
Michael
We had a small dog with us and it was not until we arrived at the cottage that we read a notice at the bottom of the stairs saying dogs not allowed upstairs. This needs to be clearly notified on Sykes web site as some dogs sleep in the bedroom with their owners. On a very positive note the cottage is superb.
This is a five star property. Perfect location for Peak District hiking, lovely village with great facilities including lovely village pub. The house is wonderfully comfortable and extremely well equipped. Lovely cosy lounge, with two sofas and a log burner, especially and stunning top floor bathroom. The owners have clearly thought of everything and have acted on previous guests feedback. My only suggestion is that it should be made clear on the website that dogs are not allowed upstairs as I would not have booked had I known that if you have a dog that sleeps in your room then a holiday is not the time to try to break that as its very stressful.
Millward house is a beautiful older house refurbished to a really high standard, beautifully furnished and lots of character. The village of Longnor where the house is situated is lovely with all the amenities close by, and there is lots of information about the area available at the house, it's a beautiful place to stay, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend this house to anyone. The owners of the house were very helpful when we had an emergency with our dog, John even asked us to let him know how our dog was after the vets call and medication.

We throughly enjoyed our stay at Millward House and would certainly recommend ... We throughly enjoyed our stay at Millward House and would certainly recommend it, the village had a great pub which has recently been done up, fish and chip shop as well as a post office and small but well stocked convenience shop and was not far from Buxton and Bakewell
Cynthia
The property was first rate and met all our needs. Exactly as described. The owner was very solicitous and extremely helpful. Everything was perfect.
A lovely property situated in the middle of Longnor. The garden is on two levels, with steep stairs to the upper level. The comfortable seating is on the higher level, but was plagued with wasps making it impossible to relax. The parking is very hit and miss outside the house. We had to park several times in the little car park in the village square. Unfortunately not everyone is careful when parking and we returned to our car one morning to find the rear of our car had been scuffed.
Douglas
Great property in a lovely location with easy access to most locations across the Peak District. Local shops had a great selection of food and treats, the local pub reopened during our stay offering homemade food. Property had everything we needed with a mix of modern and traditional feel. The sweet treats and fizz on arrival was a nice touch.
Millward House was exceptional in every way. It had everything we needed for a family week away. It was very clean and had excellent facilities. The bed were very comfortable and the whole house was very spacious. The owners John and Avril were very approachable and very speedy in reply to any text questions I had. The house is well placed being very close to the local shop and fish and chip shop, and literally right next door to the post office and a sweet shop! I would absolutely recommend Millward House for a great holiday.
Great House, great location.
Property and facilities were fantastic everything and more were provided. Even a fridge with milk, bread, fruit and a plate of freshly made scones and cream awaited us. What more would you need to start your holiday. Perhaps a beautiful two level garden ? yes that too, to catch the morning and the afternoon sun. Thankyou again to John and Avril We will recommend it to our friends
