Pickle Cottage Reviews

Had the most amazing time! The whole family loved the stay! The cottage was fantastic! We had a family of 6 and there was so much room can't highly recommend this place enough! People so lovely and helpful couldn't do enough to make your stay wonderful! Definitely going back there!
Cottage is cosy, clean and wellequipped decent space for 6plus. Kids enjoyed the games and DVDs. Owner is readily available for any questions and there is loads to seedo in the area. Very good value for money. Definitely recommend and we all agreed we want to stay there again.

We enjoyed our stay, but comparing to our first stay at accommodation through Sykes this was our second the hostess wasnt as thorough showing us round the accommodation, but friendly enough. We really struggled to use the oven, the owner said it was self explanatory, but it took a long time to cook until we moved the shelves round. Once we did this it worked a lot better. The parking was very tricky especially if you have more than one car as did we as theres a small car park beside the pub which appears to be used by people living behind and theres room for some cars in front of the cottage but parking is very limited. The children loved the bedroom above, but for adults you really have to bend or you will hit your head. The location was okay and there was things to entertain the children with plenty of car parks street parking was limited due to an insane amount of motorbikes present over the weekend.

A very welcoming host, the property was a perfect base for exploring the area, close to Carsington water & Cromford with lovely Wirksworth a short drive away. The cottage has a great outside area sun trap in the afternoon! We enjoyed BBQs & outside dining. The pub next door is a real treasure, lovely locals, dog friendly and full of interesting decor. 2 families with 2 teenagers each had a relaxing and comfortable stay with all we needed and great value. No house guidebook but Jane is on hand for all your questions & was very helpful. Wed definitely stay again.
Charli
Absolutely gorgeous cottage, location was perfect and host was so lovely. The kids had a great time, and the locals in the pub were really friendly. It felt like a home away from home.
Very comfortable property. Pet friendly. Cosy and warm Good facilities Tea and coffee provided Pub next door very welcoming and also pet friendly. Village pub so did not disturb us and sometimes has a food van. Kettle wasnt working but a replacement was provided immediately. Very happy to stay again!

Jane was a really lovely welcoming host and we enjoyed our visits to the pub, meeting all the locals and their dogs! A very relaxing place for a big family get together, with spectacular dog walks nearby and everything you could ask for provided.
Victoria
The cottage was clean and comfy inside but two things made me score it a 3. Outside the cottage was a dumped washing machine, scooter with a flat tyre, a broken pump with a cable, rusty BBQs and a pot with cigarette butts in. The bedroom with extra beds up on a mezzanine floor had lights not working bulbs missing. This was important to safety as the stairs to the mezzanine were in darkness and the steps were high in a really narrow space. This wouldn't take much to correct. It's a lovely good value cottage just let down by some simple maintenance.
Second time booking at pickle cottage now. We absolutely love our stay, excellent pricing and the hosts have always been very accommodating & helpful.
Lauren
I booked this cottage for a uni reunion, was a beautiful quaint cottage and we got given an extra night for free! The kitchen was fully equipped and it was easy for us to all take turns cooking. Was very handing to have a dishwasher to. Was a short drive away from both Matlock and Bakewell and had short local walks around the area too. Only downside was there was no where to eat in the village, this meant we couldnt all have a drink if we eat out or we would have to cook back at the cottage, but that is not the end of the world. Would highly recommend. Beds upstairs can easily fit two adults, they just have to mind there heads. Free parking also at the neighbouring pub. Dont have a bad word to say, would stay again

We had a lovely extended family stay, the house was a perfect base for exploring the beautiful countryside and enjoying the local pubs. The kids had a brilliant time and loved the little touches like games near their beds and plenty to keep them amused in the pub!
Rebecca
Lovely stay, lovely owners, lovely location. Really welcoming and very enjoyable stay.
Nice cottage situated in a lovely area for walking, mountain biking, etc. We had a lovely time with the family. Being mega critical there were a few bits that needed updatinggeneral maintenance but its an old cottage and just added to the quirkyness really! Owners were very friendly and helpful too. Wed definely stay again.
We had a wonderful stay in perfect surroundings. Pickles cottage is magical.
Excellent location and a very nice property clean, tidy, welcoming. Thank you for a grand holiday.
Sheila
Pickle Cottage is a lovely quirky cottage set in a lovely village. Alan and Jane very helpful with any queries we had. I would recommend this cottage. There were 5 of us , three adult and two children so would easily sleep 8 as advertised. The upstairs mezzanine was brilliant for the children to sleep in. Every where was clean and of course you can take your dog with you.
Andrew
The cottage was ideally situated, clean and comfortable. Jane was very welcoming and helpful. We'll be back for sure!
Jackie
We had a lovely weekend, we are two families that come together a few times a year. Our four girls aged 1214yrs loved having their own space in the larger bedroom. The cottage had everything we needed & was a great base to go & explore the area. We will definitely be back again. Thank you to Anne, she was a great host.
Gillian
Really enjoyed our stay here. Couldn't fault the cottage. Very grateful owner told us about the pizza van that comes to the pub on a Friday!
A neat little cottage, aesthetically furnished & decorated, with all the useful amenities required which made it truly, a home away from home! Lots of visitor attractions at a stone's throw away. I would definitely recommend it.
What a fantastic find. A lovely cottage with great facilities. Easy to find, easy to park. Lots to do on the door step recommend Black Rocks, about 3 miles away with pretty but steep walks, amazing views. The owners of the cottage were helpful and very friendly. Their pub next door is a proper country pub with beautiful and interesting decorations. We look forward to returning.
We loved the property it was very cozy and perfect for our two families with children. The location is very good too, and we did two interesting walks around the area. So all in all thank you so much! The only issue was heating it was really warm and we could not set the radiators to give moderate heat or switch them off even on low setting they were very hot. The only way was to switch off the heating completely using thermostat. If there is a way to tune it, it is worth informing your guests for their comfort and also to save some money on the bills.
Charles
So lovely, very warm friendly welcome. Best cottage to rent in Midleton my son had a fantastic birthday . thank you so much
Great cottage in a lovely village location.
Prudence
Excellent place for sightseeing, dog walking and plenty of places to dine out. Very pleasant landlady and locals. Supermarket and petrol close by. Road closures signs not always right! Try the road before taking long detours. Could,nt fault the cottage or location. Well done.
The cottage was beautiful and had everything you could ask for. The owner is so relaxed, friendly and helpful and was especially welcoming of our dogs. The pub next door is very friendly and worth a visit. Lovely area with some stunning walks. Highly recommended.
Andrew
Great little cottage, ideal location for exploring the peaks. Cottage down stairs quite small good job the rest of the party couldn't come . Booked for 6 adults 2 children. Was ideal for 4 adults 2 children. Upstairs was very large and roomy. Kitchen was well stocked with most things you would need. Bathrooms great with Good water pressure. Host very good. Would certainly recommend and will be going back. Thank you.
We had a lovely break at Pickle Cottage, it was cosy and warm. Well equipped kitchen and nice spacious living space. It is in a great location if you want peace and quiet. The locals are very friendly and we were invited out on the village walk as we emerged from the cottage one Sunday morning, we had an instant new set of friends! The bus service is excellent for a remote location and good valley for money if you are still of a fare paying age! We would love to return to the area some time, its taken a piece of my heart!
Nicole
