Royal Oak Reviews

Adrian
We have had a lovely time in royal oak, the cottage was amazing,we had everything we could have asked for. We would definitely recommend this cottage, great location, thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
This is a wonderfully comfortable and welcoming cottage. It is definitely the most well equipped holiday home we have ever stayed in. And it is in a great location for exploring the Peak District and the surrounding area. We have had a lovely holiday thank you so much.
Benita
Lovely cottage. Had all we needed for our stay but the pull of the food in the pub opposite won we didnt even turn the cooker on! Only downside isnn be parking but we knew that when we booked everything else was good and we all want to go back!!
We had a 3 night weekend break at the Royal Oak Cottage. Everything was perfect, I would recommend this cottage. Communication about checkin and out was great as well as throughout our stay. On arrival the cottage was warm and welcoming. The open plan downstairs kitchen and sitting room was perfect for our family gathering. The kitchen had everything we need for preparing and eating meals. The bedrooms are all good sizes and plenty of storage. The snug room and back door was perfect as an extra space and for leaving coats and boots. The bathroom and shower room both have good showers with lovely hot water. Brassington is a lovely village and very well placed for accessing walks and visiting local attractions. The Old Gate Inn and Miners Arms are both very welcoming with great food and drinks.
Just returned from our second stay which really speaks for itself. We will return.

The property suited us very well three generations, parents, children plus partners grandchildren. 7 adults, one infant school child and a toddler. It was clean, comfortable, well equipped and a lovely big lounge and dining area gave plenty of space for socialising. Garden very small, but as we had poor weather it didn't affect us and there were chairs available for sitting outside. A most enjoyable stay. We would have found a second set of house keys useful as we did spend some time going up and down the stairs to retrieve the keys from either the back or front door, when in the property.
A tidy, clean if slightly quirky in layout cottage, with good walking access to the surrounding Peak District. Kitchen well stocked with pots and pans, good sized lounge area for eight, with large smart TV, excellent WiFi and comfortable beds. No mobile phone signal, but you cannot blame the owners for that, so just use the WiFi until you leave the valley of the village. Overall, a very enjoyable extended family stay for the eight of us..
Annemarie
We honestly cannot rate this cottage and the owners more. The cottage is a short distance from so much that even though we only stayed for 3 nights, we were able to explore so much and make some great family memories. The cottage itself was like a home a way from home. It was clean and comfy with so much space. The facilities that the owners provide were honestly above and beyond what you would expect from a holiday let. From kitchen appliances, cutlery, pots, pans and the necessities to everything you could need in a home to have a no worry stay. We holidayed with family so the two floors that included a separate bathroom on each is a dream to share the experience but have our own little bit of privacy. The decor was outstanding and so fresh but also charismatic, you can tell that the owners have put a lot of thought and love into it. There was so much space throughout for our family of 7 including a sweet, comfy little snug which the kids in particular adored. Claire was so accommodating and welcoming from the get go of our booking. The location was spot on too. Although close to a busy road with the pub opposite, it was so quiet and peaceful with everyone surrounding so polite. We are already talking about booking again and I have already recommended this place to a couple of friends and family members. Do not hesitate to book, you will not be disappointed! We cannot wait to come back for a longer stay next time in the very near future.
A perfect cottage for a perfect weekend get together for 6 old friends. The cottage was spotlessly clean and very well appointed. Brassington boasts two very welcoming pubs with the Olde Gate literally the other side of the road from the cottage.
The only issues were that the oven trays were all dirty and we had to wash them before use not a massive task, they were probably just missed. There was supposed to be a second set of keys hung up by the back door. We couldnt find keys or a hook. We really loved the house, the village and the pubs and we will definitely come back again.
Patricia
Had to find this property short notice. To accommodate 7 adults the cottage was really spacious, comfortable & kitchen very well equipped. The location was ideal for walking & visiting local places. Both pubs nearby served excellent food and drink. Nothing was too much trouble. We were given shortbread, by the owners, as a welcome gift. Thank you Claire!
Can you include the address for the WIFI as well as the code? Very comfortable. Took 1 minute to reach the pub!
We were impressed with the modernisation, decor and fittings, as well as the personal contact from the owner to ensure everything was how we wanted it when we arrived. Brassington is a great place to stay, with it's history and for walkers. The two top floor bedrooms have great views of the surrounding hills with their traces of former mine workings and rock outcrops. Overall, Brassington is an excellent base for exploring the Devonshire Dales and Peak District, remaining a relatively quiet and authentic former mining village. The odd lorry whizzing past the cottage before 9am was the only interruption to the overriding sense of calm. The hospitality provided in The Olde Gate Inn across the road is worth the cost of the stay alone the quality of the food, in particular, is outstanding! Overall, we would rate our stay and the cottage 4.75 out of 5, with just a few practical points which bothered us a little we're being 'picky' here and commenting in the hope our feedback will be useful a taller lamp in the lounge to provide a reading spot on one of the sofas, a shaving point in one of the bathrooms, a powerpoint near a mirror for my wife's hairdryer. We would very happily return, however!
Amanda
We stayed here for a 40TH birthday, the accommodation met all of our needs and was over equipped with everything we needed. It was comfortable and spacious and suits all types of parties. Would 100 recommend this beautiful quirky cottage to friends and family.
Christine
The cottage was a lovely cosy base, great for exploring the beautiful Derbyshire dales.
Really fantastic cottage. Lovely pub opposite.

Pictureperfect! My family and I enjoyed a wonderful few days staying in the Royal Oak Cottage located in the beautiful village of Brassington. We hired bikes at nearby Carsington Water and enjoyed a pleasant ride around the reservoir bookings to be made online. We had a trip to Castleton and climbed Mam Tor followed by coffee and cake in one of the pretty tea rooms in the town. Matlock Bath and Bakewell are a short distance from Brassington making this the perfect location to explore the Peaks. The village has two pubs both serving excellent food. We had a particularly warm welcome in the Miners Arms and arranged a 'takeaway' from the main menu one evening to take back to the cottage, the food was so delicious that we went back to eat the following evening. The locals are delightful and we loved walking around the village admiring the pretty cottages and scenery, this truly was the most relaxing few days. The cottage is spotlessly clean, spacious and has everything that you need for a comfortable and cosy stay. We cannot wait to return!
We really loved our stay at the Royal Oak, we liked that we don't need to bring towels and bedding. The kitchen was more than complete, it had everything. We will come back sometime. Greetings family Molier
