The Farmhouse Reviews

Edward
Beautiful peaceful location, very well equipped, large hot tub, large garden. All we needed for a great long weekend with our 10 grandchildren.
Incredible place. We loved it. Well stocked kitchen, beautiful grounds, clean hot tub and comfy beds. Plenty of room for us all. The highchair and cribs and stair gate were tremendously helpful. Best view too.
Elizabeth
What a wonderful place to stay! The location is idyllic with wonderful walks right from the front door. Extremely comfy beds and beautiful kitchen.
Sharon
We had a family gathering and the Farmhouse was perfect to accommodate all of us. There was plenty of space, a well stocked kitchen with every size pots & pans, utensils every type of glass you could imagine. All the beds were comfortable. The hot tub was a plus. The only thing we felt needs changing is the BBQ. It was covered in fat, we had taken trays luckily but is was not adequate to cook on for so many people a big gas one would be perfect and easier to keep clean. Beautiful views from every window too.
Frances
We had a lovely weekend stay in the farmhouse to celebrate a 50th birthday. The owner, Ben, was very flexible and helpful, and Vicky who manages the house looked after us very well. The surrounding area is beautiful and we enjoyed a lovely walk from the house. There were 14 in our party and we found the accommodation very clean and comfortable. The house is well equipped and we enjoyed the hot tub! The EV charging was an added bonus! Thank you for a lovely stay.
We had a great family Christmas at Lowfield Farm. The tree and other Christmas decorations made it feel very homely. The bedrooms were great, with comfy beds and plenty of space for all 15 of us. The showers were also good and there was always plenty of hot water. The kitchen was wellequipped with everything we needed to cook Christmas dinner for 15 and plenty of plates, glasses etc. The lounge was comfortable though a little cramped when we were all in there. The dining room was very dark even with all the lights on. The location was peaceful, with walking paths straight from the house but not too far from the nearest town.

I went for my 60th birthday and what a great time i had, friends and family joined me to celebrate, the farmhouse was brilliant everyone had a comment to say about it from having plenty of space comfotable beds cleanliness, the farmhouse itself was situated in stunning scenery and it was a reasonable walk into the villiage, i would highly recommend
The kitchen was well equipped for catering for a large group and the bedrooms were comfortable. There was an unpleasant smell in the utility area, a loose finial in the lounge which fell down when curtains were drawn, an overhead light would be useful in ground floor bedroom, door to stairs needed to be shut when using toaster to prevent smoke alarm going off & signage on both sides at the top would be helpful. We thankfully didnt meet any cars coming in the opposite direction on the narrow approach but not sure how we would have managed to pass if we had.
This is a rustic farmhouse set in an isolated area with wonderful views. It may, however, be isolated in terms of location, but it is only 20 minutes from towns such as Matlock and has good walks out the back door. The house itself is well equipped and warm. We had 15 people and never felt cramped. It is very convenient for all local tourism or just getting a good delivery and relaxing.
Great venue for a family get together. Generous and high standards of accommodation. Lovely setting. Big garden for dogs and kids to enjoy. Lots of walks nearby. Highly recommend. Would have been helpful to have some written instructions about the hot water system and where to find controls etc.
We really enjoyed our weekend at the farmhouse. It was beautifully clean and well equipped except unfortunately the microwave didnt work! A second kettle would be useful when making a cuppa for 16 people too. The hot tub was great and the garden a lovely space for the children to play. The amazing views were a joy especially the sunsets and we went on rambles along the countryside footpaths from the house. The powerful showers were brilliant lovely to dive into when we came out of the hot tub. Overall a great place to relax with the family.
A lovely weekend for a pretty challenging brief of 12 adults and 7 kids under the age of 8 and a 3 dogs! Enough room for everyone to get along, clean comfortable rooms and a fantastic garden with great views across the valley. Would highly recommend.

The Farmhouse was a great base for our extended family to stay and explore the Peak District. There was plenty of inside space with childproof furniture and the outside space was good for games. Brilliant views from the house and grounds, and the hot tub. We found the house spotlessly clean and the kitchen especially was very well equipped. Vicky, the manager, was friendly, responsive and helpful.
The farmhouse kitchen was so well equipped we were able to make two birthday cakes during our stay. The range cooker was great to use. Beds were all incredibly comfortable one daughter said it was even better than their own mattress! The heating system provided hot water whenever we needed it and the central heating very efficient with a back up fire in the lounge for the evenings. We enjoyed the outside seating area and the hot tub was used every day. Our canine companions loved all the walks around the area and so did everyone else. The farmhouse has 360 degree views and we saw some incredible sunsets from the conservatory. My only criticism was that the photos of the interior on the web do not do the farmhouse justice it certainly is a rambling house and some rooms can appear dark but in fact we loved it all. There were however, only 11 of us so we were not filling the place to capacity. We would definitely go back again at some point.
Leslie
A very homely property well equipped for a family. Beautiful setting albeit stiff walk to local village
We had a great stay and will definitely return. Things we loved amazing views from every angle, comfy beds, lots of cosy sofas in the sitting room, big open fire in dining room, plenty of room for 15 of us, hot tub was great, dog friendly, well equipped 3 fridges!, thoughtful welcome pack, EV car charging, great communication from host, friendly sheep.
Valerie
It was a very pleasant situation, though the approach road was extremely narrow and difficult to negotiate with oncoming traffic or pedestrians and sheep. There was not enough space for all to sit in the kitchen or the lounge we were only 11, so I'm not sure how a larger group would manage. Catering for a large number in the kitchen was tricky due to lack of working surfaces. The room with long tables at the entrance to the house was very basic and soulless, so we weren't inclined to use it. We had problems with sheep invading the garden and keeping us awake at night and the lawn was consequently out of bounds for my grandchildren because of sheep faeces.
Thomas
Very comfortable and spacious property, which is very accurately described in the booking material. We were a party of 8 adults and 7 small children and there was plenty of space and comfortable accommodated. Very helpful manager who was very responsive to any requests It is in a lovely setting and if you want a rural retreat with a large party you really couldn't have asked for more
Great location and facilities for our extended family weekend. Directions We all found the house OK but directions up the narrow lane werent very helpful. Very well equipped. BBQ Nice new bbq but property details could add info about it being a charcoal bbq and guests need to bring fuel.
Annabel
We had a fabulous time at The Farmhouse, which was very comfortable, very clean and very well equipped a perfect venue for a large family gathering, managing to combine space with cosines. The property manager is very friendly and helpful, and the surrounding countryside is stunning with footpaths leading to numerous local beauty spots and nearby villages. I wholeheartedly recommend The Farmhouse to anyone looking for a place to host a large group comfortably.

We enjoyed our stay and really liked the location but more information in the house on the following would be helpful although we had no specific problems with any of these how the heating and hot water worked hot tub controls
Kenneth
A great property in a lovely location, perfect for a large group of family and friends. My only comment would be that there is a large and growing population of ants, which are starting to get a bit annoying. And the little welcome pack is nice, but some ground coffe would be better than a bag of beans, since I don't think the property has any way of grinding them!
We loved staying at the farmhouse it was clean there was enough space for all of us 17 the views and surrounding area are stunning. The facilities within the Farmhouse were good. The only thing that I would say is there needs to be more signs for some of the steps within the property there are some deep steps, especially around the kitchen and no warning signs but apart from that myself and my family had a lovely weekend in this lovely Farmhouse.
A perfect house for a large gathering! We stayed here for a family holiday and it had everything we needed. There was lots of space for all 18 of us in the bedrooms and reception rooms with a welcoming kitchen, living room and conservatory. Plenty of room for the younger children to play and give the teenagers some separate space too. The kitchen was very well equipped and the welcome basket, board games and books were a nice addition. The house was very clean, warm and wellkept which I'm sure isn't easy with such an old farmhouse! The hot tub was a huge hit with everyone and the views were amazing! Lots of outdoor space for football and our Easter egg hunt! We had an issue with the filter on the hot tub and the maintenance team came out very quickly and resolved it Vicky was very responsive and helpful. I would definitely recommend this holiday house!
Fantastic place. Perfect location remote and private. House was very well stocked with all you'd need, including board games. Jacuzzi was amazing, we bathed in the hot tub whilst watching new born lambs gambling about only feet away
A lovely, comfortable property in a beautiful location. Great space for a large gathering of friends and family. The dogs enjoyed the huge garden space we were there before any livestock moved in to the surrounding fields Friendly and helpful manager thanks for a great week away!
Fantastic long weekend spent at the Farmhouse with 12 adults and 3 infants. The photos dont do it justice! Beautiful area, comfortable beds with a well equipped kitchen and the hot tub was an added bonus. Responsive hosts who were available but not intrusive. We will be back!
The dishwasher filter might need cleaning
Lowfield Farm is a perfect location for a family gathering. We were a party of 16, with 10 adults and 6 children. We had a really excellent weekend and the hot tub was loved by young and old.
Great property perfect for a family get together. Everything we needed, the location was great. The property was perfect for everyone. It suited all three generations of the family. Everything was as described and exceeded our expectations. We would definitely book again
Michael
Had a great time at the cottage the facilities are great and it is a beautiful area. There are footpaths for walks immediately from the property. There is plenty of space for a big group we spent one night in the cottage making a big group meal, and the other night booked a pub meal at a place in Youlgreave about 3040 mins walk on footpaths across the fields. The hot tub was a great addition, especially when it was cold and snowing outside. The hosts were very friendly and incredibly helpful when we had some car issues at the end. Would highly recommend!
Kathryn
One of the best places we have ever stayed in. The description doesnt do it justice. A luxurious ,beautifully appointed farmhouse in a stunning location. Our party of 10 adults 5 children and a baby had everything they needed and more !
The Farmhouse is a lovely place to stay with family and friends. We were there to celebrate and the facilities were ideal for this. It is an old farmhouse but this gives it its charm. The information maybe should mention that there is a long access road.
Alison
The location is amazing and the care taker was very friendly. Having stayed in the other holiday let here I must say we were a little disappointed with the farmhouse. This was a family holiday for my parents 50th wedding anniversay. The property is in need of some general maintenance with broken furniture and light fittings in several of the rooms. There were only 4 wine glasses the rest were plastic and the kitchen equiptment did not match what was available in the other property. The hot tub needs daily check or more chlorine as by day 2 the water was pretty unpleasant we showered before using. Overall I would recommend this location but would advise booking the other accomodation.
Pauline
After a wonderful week at the Farmhousethe location was fantastic, suitable for our large family, comfortable, clean and with views to die for. Just a couple of things. There were water problems upstairsno cold water came out of upstairs taps or loos while the bath was being run. The grass around the property was very long, making games of football difficult. Dave did come and mow but stopped when the wheels fell off the mower. Dave was helpful with other things when we contacted him. I did feel irritated when emailed by Sykes Cottages while we were in the Farmhouse, offering the property at almost 5000 less just two weeks after our stay.it made me question whether we had been overcharged for the week we had booked. Despite this, our family of twelve adults and six children had a very happy holiday, in an outstanding location and in a very comfortable and wellequipped farmhouse.
Anthony
The Farmhouse is in a good location, with great views, including from the hot tub! It was great for children to romp around, both inside and out. Plenty of outside space but the overlong grass prevented some games being played. The kitchen was wellequipped with plenty of crockery and cutlery. As with any building of that size and age there were some maintenance niggles, but nothing to mar our stay.
Richard
A farmhouse in a beautiful location but sadly very overpriced for what we got. Day 1 we couldnt turn heating off despite 20C Day 2 plumber came and said there was a problem but he had closed all radiator valves. Also day 2 downstairs toilet started to smell badly. We were told there had been a problem but obviously not fixed Day 3 we decided to have a BBQ but realised 40 of outdoor table had no glass top we were told the wind had caught it and the glass had broken. We found out they hadnt swept up properly when one of the children in our party brought some pieces of glass they had found between the paving stones. I could go on about insufficient glasses and poor wifi but they seemed relatively insignificant!!
Kenneth
Leak from beneath the kitchen sink possibly from dishwasher drain was a problem, but hopefully now fixed. Two long tables don't really fit well in the dining room, especially while it's also trying to be an entrance hall, boot and coat removing area etc. Not sure what you could do about that though. But a very warm and comfortable house we had a good time.
We had a lovely time thank you! A few minor things cd be improved the conservatory doors dont lock altho I appreciate that the location is remote, this needs fixing. Oven gloves and more cleaning clothes would have been helpful and there is a relative lack of glassware for the size of property. The cold tap in the first four poster room sink also not working. A booklet with some info on the propertyapplianceslocal amenities and walks would also be helpful. We had a problem the first night with the landing light switches which are on a timer not turning off so had to remove bulbs until the electrics were reset the next day. All minor issues which didnt spoil our week the property is spacious, the jacuzzi has panoramic views after long local walks straight from the front door and the electric car chargers were great. Would love to stay again as the local area is beautiful and pubsshops in Youlgreave kept us well supplied.
