Slade House Reviews

We have just returned from our Easter break at Slade House. The house was perfect. Very clean and comfortable. The kitchen was well equipped and with 2 fridges for all our food. We wanted for nothing, except better weather. The homemade cake and bottle of fizz was a lovely touch. Plenty of walking on the doorstep. We particularly liked walking into Ilam for a cream tea. Such a pretty place. Thank you.
Norman
Great location for walking, property well equipped and furnished
Lesley
The 8 of us had a wonderful Christmas in the beautiful setting of this cottage. So many brilliant walks from the front door, and what scenery. The owners made us feel very welcome. The only problem we had was dealt with quickly. The cottage was very well equipped , the rooms all large and comfortable. Lovely to have the property decorated so nicely for the Christmas week. Thank you Julie and John for the welcome bottle of Prosecco and the amazing Victoria Sandwich cake, Bake Off had better watch out.
Slade House was a great place to stay, although adjacent to two other properties we still felt secluded. Access from the parking area was down a path and some small steps which could prove awkward for older or disabled people but apart from that the property was lovely and the views in the surrounding area were stunning.
Cosy, comfortable house which had an incredibly well equipped kitchen. Julie and John were very friendly and helpful. Position of the house was superb, with walks from the door. Could not have asked for more.
Andrew
We very much enjoyed our stay and found the house relaxing and comfortable with easy access to local walks and facilities. The house was really well equipped and the host welcoming and helpful.
Lovely family holiday in a quiet, peaceful setting. Slade House was perfect, we felt very comfortable and it had everything that you needed. The children particularly loved the garden.
Michael
We had a wonderful stay at Slade House. The kitchen was fully stocked with all the utensils and equipment we could possibly need. The house itself was spotless, wellorganized, and incredibly comfortable. Its fantastic location gave us easy access to Ashbourne, Thor's Cave, the Tissington Trail, Ilam Park, and the Stepping Stones. We were two families with four children aged 4 to 10, and they absolutely loved their time thereespecially seeing all the animals freely roaming the land. Julie was a warm and attentive host, and her homemade cake was a real treat! We would definitely love to stay again.
Nicola
Beautiful cottage and surroundings . Owner really lovely and generous with cake and lending a toy for my grandson . Would highly recommend and my wider family want to book again not only Slade house but the other two cottages for a short break. Superb stay
A lovely property, very well equipped and comfortable, particularly the beds. The owners were very friendly and welcoming, and Julie's homemade cake was delicious. The garden and surroundings were impeccably kept, and the views breathtaking. It is pretty remote and a car is essential.
From the welcome of home baked cake and prosecco to the quiet remoteness, amazing views, and walks, Slade house was the perfect base for us. Very comfortable and exceptionally well equipped we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The owners Julie and John, made themselves available but only if needed. We particularly appreciated the solar energy supply. Our group has been meeting up for 13 years and Slade is right up at the top of places weve stayed.
What a lovely property in a very peaceful location. Close enough to Ashbourne and Leek but remote enough to be a rural retreat. The owners could not have been more helpful. We had one minor issue which was delt with very swiftly with a quick text to the owners. The home baked cake on arrival was a really nice touch. There is plenty of walking from the door. The use of the EV charger was a lovely bonus.
Nicola
Julie and John were lovely host. Beautiful and character home, plenty of room for us all. We all had a lovely time, would definitely visit again.
Julie & John were the perfect hosts for our idyllic Christmas getaway in the countryside. The property, facilities and amenities are all 1st Class and additionally we enjoyed the Christmas tree, decorations, Victoria sponge and sweets. The 'clan' grandparents, parents, grandchildren and dogs have holidayed together 3 or 4 times a year over the last 5 years and agree Slade House ranks very highly in our all time top 3 stays anywhere in the UK. We would highly recommend Slade House at any time of the year but please don't book when we might want to return! Thank you Julie & John we very much appreciated all your efforts.
Probably the best holiday house Ive ever stayed in. Julie and John and exceptional hosts. Not only did Julie provide us with a world class victoria sponge, she came to our rescue when our supplies ran dry. 10 10. Couldnt recommend more highly.
Barbara
Lovely well equipped house in a beautiful location with kind hosts. We rented the House and Cottage for a big family holiday and it worked well.
Penelope
Excellent! A wonderful house, set in beautiful and peaceful surroundings. Julie and John made us very welcome and quickly and kindly sorted out my daughters request for a cot for our grandson. The lovely touches of a delicious cake, milk and Prosecco were greatly appreciated. Slade house was the perfect place for a family holiday,, lots of beautiful walks from the door, cycling along the Tissington trail from Ashbourne, and back to the cosy comfort of Slade House with games round the large farmhouse kitchen table in the evening, perfect.
Elizabeth
A delightful cottage in a wonderful setting. The spacious farmhouse kitchen had everything you could need and the beds were so comfortable. Julie was immensely helpful with any queries and her welcome cake was such a lovely thought and absolutely delicious. All of our group, including dogs give it top marks.
Joshua

Beautiful property in a great peaceful location
Had a great week at Slade House. We were a party of six adults two children and two dogs. The house had everything you needed it was a proper home from home. The children loved the big garden as did the dogs. The children loved being able to fly their kites in the field. The cake that John made was gorgeous and much appreciated as was the bottle of prosecco. All in all we had a great week. John and Jane could not of been more helpful.
Nicola
A big thank you to Julie and John for a really lovely break! Slade House was a great base for our family to get together and celebrate. Beautiful location and very helpful owners. The welcome treats and provisions, especially the homemade cake, were very thoughtful. Thank you so much.
Gorgeous cottage in a gorgeous location without the endless dos and donts on laminates which makes a refreshing change!
Fantastic location with wonderful hosts. We were made so very welcome in so many ways and felt upset about leaving such a lovely environment. We like it so much we would like to live there but we hope to be able to return again one day soon. Thank you to our hosts. Our stay with you was just what we needed.
Fantastic welcome from Julie and super cakes! Website photos are accurate but the reality is much better. The setting is perfect and there is an old world Jane Austin feel to the house. Tastefully renovated retaining many original features. Many circular walks from the house and a fantastic garden to enjoy if you just fancy a quiet day. Probably our best holiday venue to date. Excellent.
Michael
Lovely spacious & comfortable cottage in a superb location with beautiful views, surrounded by lots of farm animals & 2 very friendly farm dogs. We were made very welcome by the owners.
We had a wonderful week at Slade House, and felt completely at home during our stay. The property is very comfortable and wellequipped, and we all loved the beautiful location and the walks we could do from the doorstep! Thank you to Julie and John for making us feel so welcome.
I can not recommend this place more than enough. The host was lovely and very accommodating. The house was beautiful, clean and well equipped for our stay. The welcoming cake was amazing and did not last very long
Debora
Lovely cottage, great rural location, Julie and John are very kind and helpful and Julie baked a great cake! Thank you
We spent a very relaxing week at Slade House. The house was warm and very clean. The kitchen was equipped with everything you might need. All the beds were comfortable. Julie and John were welcoming and very helpful but not intrusive in any way. The surrounding area is beautiful and very peaceful and you can walk straight from the door along footpaths and across the fields. We loved our stay here and hope to return.
Slade house was the perfect location for a 3generation family celebration. Julie and her husband were perfect hosts and the house was lovely. Thank you.
We had a wonderful time. The farm house had a well equipped kitchen. There was plenty of room in the lounge to seat us all comfortably. The bed rooms were spacious and the beds were very comfy. There are plenty of walks from the front door. The whole area has plenty for everyone to make it an enjoyable holiday.
Alison
We really enjoyed staying at Slade House so many walks from the door, great location beautiful area, cottage had everything we needed and more and warm and cosy Owners very helpful.
Julie was exceptionally friendly and welcoming and nothing was too much trouble. The house was warm, clean and comfortable and I would recommend the location . The area is unspoilt and beautiful. Great local walking, but be prepared for a little driving to reach the regions pubs and restaurants. I would definitely rate the stay highly.
Deborah
Highly recommend. Perfect venue for a group who want to getaway from it all. Very well equipped kitchen. Spotlessly clean. We would definitely return.
This is simply the best holiday cottage that we've rented in the last decade. The owners have thought to provide for everything quality beds, sufficient heating, extra wifi, tonnes of bathrooms and easily the best equipped kitchen that we've ever used. You name it, it's got it le crueset casserole, large saucepans, baking trays, rolling pin, measuring jugs, tongs, multiple knives and chopping boards, dishes, bowls, spare fridges, the lot! When we had a problem with the wifi speaker they were onhand to provide a replacement, and there's even somewhere to charge an electric car. What more could you want??? Oh, there's the peak district literally on your door step, walks going in every direction from the end of the garden, and black nights of utter silence. We'll be making a second visit without doubt.
This was our second visit to Slade House and was as good as we expected, with everything you needed for a holiday with two babies under 3 months old and two dogs! We loved the tranquility of its situation but also the ease of access to beautiful walks and that places of interest are not far away. To know that the owners are close by on the farm site in case of problems there werent any! is reassuring too. Highly recommended for a family or any holiday.
David Kester
What a great place to stay. Julie and John are very quick to respond to questions, very welcoming, and the house was great, and wellequipped. Lots of crockery and glassware, and everything we needed in the kitchen. Cosy sitting room, and very comfortable beds and bedding. Because there are so many footpaths in the area, we enjoyed walking out from the front door on varied walks, to several pubs, and along the Manifold Valley. It's a great location! And the type 2 EV car charger was a great help too I think it was 11kW. We had no phone signal at all on Giffgaff, but very good wifi.
Justina
Wonderful place hidden in the Peak District. Absolutely everything has been thought of by John and Julie, thank you so much for sharing your home with us!
