The Lillies Reviews

The Lilies was very comfortable and well equipped. It's also a great location for exploring this part of Derbyshire.
A lovely property warm, cosy and perfect for a family Christmas get together. The property is smaller than the pictures suggest, but well organised and plenty of bathrooms which made all the difference for a large crowd. The kitchen was well equipped and the large dining table was perfect for hosting family meals. The children loved playing in the garden and wondering safely into the fields behind the property. Property owners were helpful and responsive we had a great stay, thank you! One minor suggestion would be that the towels could do with a refresh they were quite thin and not in keeping with the quality of all other provisions!
Maxine
Directions needed to be clearer as there was no service station nearby that we could see. Also finding it in the dark was a little difficult so perhaps more signage? The next door did not respect parking so it was a little frustrating and we had to ask them about their movements. Hot tub would have been a nice touch. Other than this everything was perfect Many thanks Maxine
We had a really lovely Family Holiday, in the Lillies. Plenty of room for the 11 of us. And in a good Location.
Lovely property and enjoyed by all. Three families stayed here on an Alton towers trip. There was space for everyone and had everything we needed. Very clean and comfortable. Would definitely recommend.
Very clean and extremely wellequipped house. Goodsized bedrooms and plenty of bathrooms. In a good location for both Bakewell and Matlock. On the down side, we found it quite noisy being situated on the main road. Visitors do need to be aware of that. Also the dining space was very tight
The Lillies is well positioned for easy access to Mattlock, Bakewell, Chatsworth house and Haddon Hall. It is also very close to the Steam trains at South Rowley Station 10 minute walk. You can walk from.the house down to the river Derwent or up onto the hill above the house. The house is on a busy road A6 but is set back from the road with a large hedge and drive parking as well as small front gardenpatio. In the summer, with windows open, noise from the road carried to the bedrooms at night but in the winter this would not be noticeable. Opposite the house is a large factory called Forge Solutions. We didn't hear much noise from.thr factory but a neighbour said it can sometimes be noisy. The kitchen is very well equipped. The lounge is spacious. Bedrooms are good size. Bathrooms are all adequate. Back garden is nice. Use of a garage. Total parking space is 5 cars including the garage.

It was a great house for our group of 8. We felt it was a good position to go out everyday and enjoy the Peak District. We walked, cycled and paddled our canoes either starting from the house or with a very short car journey. I would very happily return to this house if we were planning another trip to the Peak District. There was an excellent Indian restaurant, several pubs, a Coop and another small shop all within 1020 minute walk or a short car trip. Matlock station is 10 minutes away by car and a large Sainsburys is next door to the station. The garage was a great place to store all our bikes. Others have noted parking was tight but doable. We had 2 cars and a crew van and the neighbours had 2 cars. The 4 cars were in front of the house and the van outside the garage. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment for both cooking and eating. We enjoyed a roast lamb dinner because of the lovely fragrant rosemary bush outside and had no problem with pans, jugs, knives, cutting boards, etc etc There were plenty of mugs and glasses too so we could have multiple drinks without constantly washing up. The internet connection and phone signal are not great but that is the locality not a problem of the house. The control of hot water in the ensuite shower was difficulteither hot or very hot. The second shower is in a bath which if you are not used to stepping in and out of a bath could prove difficult as nothing to hold onto. We ate at the outside table as the weather was warm but also wet. There are 3 benches and additional chairs. The 6 wooden chairs are stored on the table and everything is under a raincover. The chairs are heavy and awkward to move and 4 were unnecessary for our group as we were only 8 so perhaps an alternative storage option would be nice. There is only 1 thing I would definetely change the dishwasher. We used it every day as we cooked and ate in the house most evenings. Opening it requires care as the handle catches your hand and then it hits your shins it reminded me of Arkwrights till in open all hours...?! It is difficult to stack plates, the bottom drawer doesnt pull out easily especially when fully loaded and the control panel to start etc is no longer touch sensitive.
Michelle
Lovely house and garden with a wellequipped kitchen and plenty of parking. The only improvement I can think of is the addition of a shower on the second floor as one communal shower for so many people is a bit rough!
Pamela
We had a glorious stay at the Lillies. House was fabulous, comfortable and clean. It had everything you could wish for although we did struggle with how the plates stood up in the dishwasher
Caroline
We had a lovely time at 'The Lillies' to celebrate my Mum's 70th birthday. The house is in a good location near Matlock Bath and also Bakewell in the other direction. There is lots of space there were 10 of us including 4 kids aged 6 13 years and we could all fit around the kitchen table comfortably. A well equipped kitchen although we couldn't find a fish slice for making fried eggs so we had scrambled instead. Fantastic bathrooms, no one had to queue for a toilet as there are 4 of them! Everyone reported a great night's sleep too! A fantastic stay, thank you. The niggles The 'scraping' noise the chairs make on the floor when leaving the table perhaps some furniture pads underneath the chair legs would solve this? The leather is torn on the double bed in the ensuite bedroom. This doesn't affect sleep but is a bit of an eyesore when guests first walk in. None of this spoilt our time there though, they are just 'food for thought' for the future.
Caroline
Lovely home and if there was a problem they were quick to resolve
Tristan
Perfect location for Bakewell, Matlock, Cromford Mills and Peak District. Easily suited our family bookings. Very well stock kitchen facilities. Good sized ensuite and family bathroom. Great to have the off road free parking. Thank you
Samantha
We had lovely stay at The Lillie's, we are a family of 7 plus my parents came along too. We travelled from Fife, Scotland and visited various local attractions plus Alton towers which was a 50 minute drive away. There was a Sainsbury's and an Aldi both 10 drive away and a coop and a few takeaways 2 minutes away. Peak shopping village was about 15 minutes away. There was plenty of space for everyone and plenty of seating in the lounge and at the dining table. Electric Oven took some getting use to, but I think this was just because we have a gas cooker at home. There is plenty of kitchen ware, cutlery etc and a dishwasher. There's a washing machine and a tumble dryer which was amazing with 5 kids with us. There was a problem with the en suite shower, a leak was coming through to the living room we did send a text about this, we think it was either the drain or possibly the seal at the wall as there was no water outside of the shower on the floor so after the first use we avoided using it for the rest of the stay to prevent any damage, meaning there was only one shower between 9 of us but we managed, having 4 toilets was a big bonus though. Beds were comfy and there's plenty of space for clothes. Parking was ok, but we only had 2 cars between us and the cottage next door had 3 cars between them, there was a diagram to show how and where to park but we felt this just wouldn't work unless everyone had small cars so we parked at the front of the house and my parents parked at the back outside the garage doors. All in all we had a lovely stay and wouldn't hesitate to return and recommend to others
Great owners, Andrew very helpful many thanks!
A group of 6 retired ladies had a lovely stay. A member of the group had stayed in Torestyn next door a few times previously and recommended either cottage would be good. Plenty of seats in the lounge for us all. Higher back support sofas would have been even better. Very well equipped throughout, warm and comfortable. Having 2 fridges was a bonus as we were out during the day but were able to take a good supply of food and drink for evenings. Another shower would be great. There are 2 and 2 baths but a larger number of adults would benefit from an additional shower. Well equipped kitchen, plenty of space throughout the house. Although the house is close to a busy road the noise is minimal. The location was perfect for us, giving us easy access to Bakewell, Chatsworth, shops etc. Parking could be a little difficult if both houses had a larger number of cars to park but there are additional spaces available to both round the back. Already booked for later in the year,
The Lillies house is lovely property with greate location. Everything what you need to spend wonderful break away from the city. Fabolouse accomadation for large group of friends or familly
Lovely big house that was perfect for a family getaway. 12 of us stayed here and it was very comfortable for a family of all different age groups. The house is so well maintained and the kitchen is extremely well equipped. Location perfect for visiting Bakewell and lovely villages. Car parking can be tricky, we had 4 cars and although it states 5 cars could park there, this would have been difficult. The front courtyard parking is shared with the house next door. There is also a garage that can accommodate a medium size car and a space next to the garage. There is a diagram inside the property showing how best to park. Good communication from owners, would definitely return.
Siobhan
It was an absolutely great house. We were three families six adults and five children and the sleeping accommodation was excellent. Plenty toilets throughout the house. The living room and kitchen could comfortably fit us all. The children loved the cubby holes in the top floor eaves which are clean and carpeted they made great little dens. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed for cooking full family meals. Great bus links into the local towns where there were lots of lovely things to do. The only and tiny! suggestion for improvement would be some blankets in the living room not because it was cold, purely for snuggling up in the evening. An absolutely fantastic house would very happily book it again.
Three families met here for a birthday weekend. We had a great time and it was particularly nice that the property was decorated for Christmas. Excellent facilities apart from the fact that the oven wouldn't close properly. Would recommend, especially if you're visiting Chatsworth.
We had an absolutely fantastic stay. The house pictures on Sykes do not do the accommodation justice. We were totally blown away by the standard of furniture and fittings. The house truly accommodated the nine of us without feeling cramped and kitchen accessories also catered for large groups and again great quality. We will be definitely booking again in the near future. Excellent location for getting around the local attractions. We would also like to take this opportunity to personally thank the host Andy for his attention and professionalism from start to finish.
A wonderful stay with great facilities, thankyou! Parking can be a bit tricky though if you have multiple guest groups driving in. Would be helpful to share your parking diagram in advance for future guests if possible as I can understand that you might not want to paint lines on your courtyard!
A lovely house, and nice and warm. The only change i would make is to have another television, I would book it, if we decided to go to Bakewell again.
We came in 2019 and stayed in Torrestyn, the property next door. However The Lilies at the time, was the cover house had much more modern furniture in the living room. At the time of booking, we had the choice of BOTH properties and we actually paid 50 more to stay at the more modern furnished property, which was the Lilies. However, on arrival, we noticed that both door signs has been switched and we were back in Torestyn which is now The Lilies So we felt a little short changed having booked and paid more for the other property to find we were staying in the SAME property as last time. Here are a few things that we noticed The sofas were a bit tired, and smelt of animals so we spent very little time in the living room. Overall, we had a good time and very accessible to all attractions of the Peak District. The freezer hadn't been defrosted. So we had to chip off the ice to open up the top shelf. The coffee maker was broken but the owner did replace it the next day The shower in the ensuite was not hot enough and the sink to the right was draining VERY slow. Parking wasn't ideal as between the two houses, we had 6 cars. The pots and pans were a bit dated and I noticed the Wok and the T Towels I left behind 4 years ago were still in use. PHOTOS on SYKES definitely need to be updated as they are very misleading as both living rooms are completely different. The House Torestyn which is the one on the right. is definitely the more modern one!
Steven
We had a fantastic stay, we could not fault the accommodation and facilities. Everything was so very easy, so if we need to return to this area we would definitely stay again. Good job guys, Thank you.
A very comfortable stay by all our party. May well consider a return trip in the future during more summer climate. Snow made it very pretty and good job roads were clear. Cottage was all it stated when booking and the owners could not be more attentive or helpful. A great time had by all.
Great cottage, beautifully furnished and equipped, plenty of space for 10 adults and room for more.
Sylvia
We all thoroughly enjoyed our three night break. The bedrooms were great for the whole family. There was plenty of seating in the lounge and the kitchen was fully equipped with the bonus of two fridges. We all thought though that the only points we could see for improvement would be bigger towels in the bathrooms and more modern bed linen. And the parking was a bit tricky with the adjoining house having three cars making six in all.
Location was great as between Bakewell and Matlock and not far from Buxton. Loads of places to eat and great for us shoppers. Cottage was first class, exactly as described and we all really enjoyed our stay. Thankyou and hopefully we can return one day soon
Great house Car park is a challenge to get into and out of but quite possible. A couple of minor things needed addressing and I contacted the owner directly to get them sorted. Great to have a garden and outdoor dining area we used these a lot. Lots of bathrooms meant there was never a queue! Would return as we did last year!0 if we decided on the Peak District again.
A lovely spacious house. We stayed in April 2022 and it was perfect for what we needed. Plenty of room, great location for local attractions, very well maintained. Would definitely visit again.
We had a lovely holiday so thank you and would come again. However there were many chipped pieces of crockery, the shower head was too heavy and unable to be adjusted in the family bathroom. Small things I know but it did cost a lot of money!
Enjoyed holiday but a few comments to help improve facilities for future guests Parking tricky for 5 cars unless small family cars. Bigger oven would be appreciated when catering for up to 12 people 1 small cupboard in kitchen at floor level dirty Shower head in bathroom on 1st floor not fit for purpose as kept bending forward.when in use. Too many air fresheners scattered about house. Disappointed heavily stained bedding underneath bottom sheet in more than 1 bed.
What a find! We celebrated a big birthday herethe accommodation was perfect for a retired couple, a family of five and a family of four. Bathrooms on all floors ensured no queuing. Kitchen had everything you could possibly want and a very convenient extra fridge. High spec facilities, spotlessly clean, conveniently located.. we had a wonderful time. Have recommended the property to others. Thank you !
Extremely satisfied with the property, amenities etc. Very helpful owners, knowledgeable and welcoming. Pity that we had only 2 nights there. Will definitely go back again.
Natalie
Lovely clean modern cottage, with everything you could need for a weekend break.
This is a fantastic property for a large group. Beautiful, well equipped house in a fantastic location. We loved spending Christmas here with our family and were delighted with the Christmas decorations and welcome pack. The family bathroom on the middle floor is in need of a deep clean as are all of the bathroom fans. We felt that bins in the bathrooms and toilet would've been helpful. The dishwasher is very difficult to use as the drawers come off every time they are opened. These are just little niggles that we feel need addressed but we would love to return to this property.
Alison
We loved the property. It was perfect for our preChristmas celebrations. Kitchen great for cooking for a large family. Thank you for the decorations they looked lovely. Would definitely recommend.
House was lovely and warm when we arr late afternoon in very cold weather! Had all kitchen utensils for family get together was lovely my sonre said it was brill thanx
Overall, our stay at The Lillies was great! Communication with the owners was easy, beds are surprisingly comfortable, location is perfect and the price incredibly reasonable. There were only a handful of small things that I would say could improve the place the bathroom door at the top could do with oiling its a bit loud, the oven gloves need replacing, theres a drainage issue with the bath on the 1st floor that needs sorting and more then 2 showers between over 10 people would be handy. There are baths but showers are obviously quicker and more convenient when sharing with lots of people. The parking is also a little tricky as youre sharing with next door, but the owners do provide a thorough guide on how to park to allow the most spaces. That being said, we would all happily stay here again! The Lillies is a really lovely property in a fabulous location with pretty much everything you could need for your stay. Would highly recommend!
