Winster Hall Reviews

Wonderful stay, from entering the property to leaving, comfortable beds, spacious spotlessly clean welcoming accommodation, we were a family party of 14 and it had everything we needed, only wish we could have used the outside facilities March booking as the garden area was lovely, would absolutely recommend.
Very spacious and impressive house. Heating problem was sorted on the day it was reported. Parking is difficult for even moderately wide cars and is best avoided. Superb welcome basket.
Michael
A lovely house for our family gathering Very comfortable & warm
We really enjoyed our stay at Winster Hall. The facilities were great and we appreciated the attention to detail such as the Wi Fi working on all floors not always the case in large houses we have stayed in and the motion activated night lights in the hall ways which is a great idea. Everyone in our party was pleased with their bedroom and thought the kitchen was well kitted out to cater for our party of 13. Plenty of room in the comfortable lounge for us all as well. The location is also great and the walks available from Winster meant there was no need to drive miles and of course the fact there are two local pubs easily walkable was a bonus. We would happily book this property again.

For a period property it was superb, but with this comes drawbacks, it was draughty, dimly lit, and the landing lights needed cleaning. The aga stove took some time to master, and squeezing the car through the front gate was a chore.Winster is a small village which seems to be overrun with tourists, and there fore the narrow roads are a bit daunting with cars parked everywhere. I suppose thats the price we have to pay, location is great with plenty of places to go, and a very well stocked shop almost next door. Bakewell ,Matlock , and chesterfield are within easy reach, but choose your route carefully as some roads are narrow and busy.
Winster Hall is an outstanding property in the heart of the Peak District. From the moment we stepped through the door we knew we were somewhere special. The facilities were fantastic, everything you needed was there. Including a welcoming hamper full of wonderful goodies. The house is situated in a beautiful village with wonderful views from many windows and has many walks from the doorstep. We couldnt have asked for more. A truly memorable visit for our family of 14 and two dogs.
It was a brilliant week, we had the whole family staying in two houses both in Winster, the Hall is outstanding, kitchen facilities perfect, rooms great , heating good and hot water supply never ran out, in addition, the village shop was excellent, their supply of breakfast goods was amazing, I have never seen such large croissants, and they were wonderful too. Sufficient plates and cutlery for 20 people, we had a lot of FUN !
Winster Hall is a spectacular property located in a beautiful village. We really enjoyed our stay.
Fabulous property, perfect for our family of 5 adults and 6 children and a dog. Although a little tired in places, Winster Hall was well equipped and comfortable, with plenty of communal space. The garden was beautiful and a safe space for the children to play. We were walking distance to play parks, the village shop and two pubs, as well as some good local walks to more pubs!. Note that the access to parking on the front driveway is very tight and only suitable for small cars.
We have enjoyed a fantastic week in Winster Hall. The property is wonderful and perfectly accommodated the 16 of us in comfort. The house lacked for nothing and we really appreciated the loaf of bread, milk, butter and tea waiting for us. The welcome hamper was a lovely and unexpected surprise. Many thanks to the team at Winster Hall.
Lovely property and was perfect for our family get together, with everything we needed to a very high standard. We had a fabulous weekend in the beautiful village of Winster. Contact was very good from Winster Hall. Highly recommend.
Adrian
Very well managed ,excellent communication in all aspects which resulted in 16 people and 2 canines creating wonderful memories that will be with us all for a very long time. Thank you
What a house! Stunning in appearance when entering front gate. Upon entering house we were met with the splendid dining room and its very well stocked and delicious welcome pack of local produce. Rooms were sumptuous and well presented, very clean and tidy. My 7 grandchildren especially loved playing hide and seek, true heaven for them. The conservatory was a great sanctuary for the adults. The garden and summerhouse with outdoor games for the kiddies was greatly appreciated by all. I have hired cottageshouses in Derbyshire for some years now and doubt we will ever top the quality of stay this lovely house gave us. Memories to last forever.
Christine
Winster Hall was a superb house for our family gathering of 14, age range 6 months to 97 years! The property was really special, both inside and out. It was so well equipped and all the rooms were beautifully decorated and furnished. It was like staying in a stately home. Our only issue was that it wasn't very suitable for my elderly mother who walks with a rollator. We had booked it as it had a downstairs bedroom but the toilet for it involved a step and quite a few yards through the dining room and hall. It wasn't easy for her to get in and out of the property. We managed and I totally understand that it's a historic property but I couldn't recommend it for people with mobility difficulties. Overall though a fantastic weekend.
Andrew
We loved our stay at Winster Hall it provided us with everything we wanted. A bueatiful old house with loads of character and modern amenities The parking at the hall is good for 5 cars, not large suv type as the old entrance is tight and has to be negotiated. However we found parking in the street was available. There are great walks and 2 pubs very close by.
Fantastic venue for our party of 12 old friends. The house was perfect and the village a lovely location. Already making plans to return next year.
Awesome venue , had the whole family together for new year , great value and great location . would go again for sure
George
We had an amazing family gathering at Winster Hall, everything you could want was there. Interaction with staff was very helpful and I would also recommend the very friendly pub just across the road, which sadly we only found out on our last day The Old Blowing Green.
An amazing property with a great history back to the 1600s and lead mining. Set an a beautiful village with PO, general store and 2 pubs close to Matlock and access to the Peak District. Everything was beautiful with the house and really well kitted out with all we needed. Lovely welcome box and good house instructions. Warm and cosy. Catered for all ages and abilities. Good outdoor space though we did not use it re time of year. We loved it and the Christmas decorations were up.
A stunning property in which to celebrate my Father in Laws 80th birthday for the weekend 18 of us in total, including 2 babies. Plenty of space for everyone, the beds were very comfortable, the kitchen well equipped some plastic plates for the young ones would have been handy. The garden and outside space is lovely, perhaps we will return in the Summer to make better use of it next time! We had a caterer come in and cook for us one evening which was fantastic. Thank you to all the people that make this place so wonderful, we will cherish our weekend memories for a long time!
Michael
Great holiday with our families sharing Winster Hall. Everything was excellent and could ask for no more. We did find the access for cars was not great as the entrance was not wide enough, therefore parked either on the road or at the side of the building.
Pauline
Perfect for the family celebration! Its a very happy place with beautiful gardens and everything you need for memorable shared moments. We enjoyed every minute of our visit and appreciated the opportunity to share this marvelous house. We played croquet, lawn Bowles, cards, dominoes and did lots of jigsaws. Beautiful views and amazing peaceful location
Adrian
Great house and very well stocked. Good location for exploring the Peak District. House full of character with a lovely garden. Welcome pack on arrival
For our walking group of over 60s, Winster Hall was an excellent base. We made full use of the large and well equipped kitchen. We enjoyed the formal dining room. We were able to relax together in the large and very comfortable lounge for our poetry, quiz and games evenings! It was an excellent week.
Thanks to Mandy and all of the people looking after Winster Hall for a great stay celebrating my mum's 60th birthday. The property is easy to find, in a great location for local amenities, with walks available from the property itself also. We will definitely consider Winster Hall for the next family gathering!
We chose Winster Hall for our cousins reunion for its location, with guests coming from all over the country. It didnt disappoint!! Its a beautiful house in a very pretty village. Its very spacious, well equipped, clean and very comfortable. It suited our group of 12 perfectly. The basket of goodies was very welcome. There are lots of easy walks nearby, two local pubs and a village shop. We had a fabulous weekend and Im sure well all be back!!!
Andrew
Excellent. The only problem was the main oven not working although there was an aga. Otherwise this was a great location for a special occasion family get together. The ability to host a birthday dinner party for twelve with matching crockery glasses and cutlery with a caterer recommended by the owners was exactly as we hoped for. The completely wall enclosed garden was a real benefit for letting our energetic puppy run free.
I booked Winster Hall for all my family to join me on a special Birthday. The Hall was trimmed up for Christmas which was a bonus. We loved the space, everyone got a lovely bedroom. We lit the fire in the Dinning room and had a wonderful meal, played games in the Lounge. The weather was awful and got soaked visiting Buxton and Haddon Hall but there is plenty to do in the area. We really liked Winster village and went to both pubs. Had a meal at the Miners Standard it was just ok. Thank you for the lovely welcome basket. Jane
Lovely house in a great location. we, the children and the grand children enjoyed a wonderful holiday. Thank you. Barry and Anita Thompson
The house is in a really convenient setting with a great little shop 20 yards away. The welcome hamper has all the basics needed to start the week. It has a full set of the necessary kitchen utensils and some to spare. The bedrooms are comfortable and the showers work well. The setting is excellent for all the main towns and visitor spots and for some great walks out of the front door. The communications from the housekeeping team are really useful and help with the stay. Highly recommended.
Andrew
Everything excellent, great holiday. The parking was a bit tricky at the front but I suppose the gated entrance is covered by the grade 2 listing.
Michael
We had a great weekend with the family 16 all together and an enjoyable time afterwards. The only issue we had was being too warm with the thermostats not appearing to be effective
Graham
Excellent property only thing we missed was a wine cooler which would have been useful and possibly some tin foil. Loved the idea of entering the property to the sound of Radio 3. Just one suggestion and that in Hartington with such a good shower the water tends to go over the shower lip and over the bathroom floor which either means the lip is not high enough or the outflow of water is too slow.
We had a fantastic stay with the extended family in this lovely house. The walled garden was a great boon and would have been even better if the weather was kinder to us. There was plenty of space so we didn't get on top of each other. The beds were comfortable and the rooms attractive. The welcome hamper was filled with local products and much appreciated. The area was full of lovely walks and attractions. I can definitely recommend this house to larger family groups to get together.
Wow!! An absolutely amazing weekend away with family and friends . This house is equipped with everything you could possibly need, they have thought about absolutely everything. Wonderful showers, comfortable beds, amazing house and garden. The hosts were informative from start to finish. We arrived to the most wonderful hamlet and card wishing us a nice stay. Absolutely everything about this property, the people and the surroundings is just perfect! We will be back without a doubt. Thank you for making our weekend so memorable and special xx
Alison
We had the best weekend at Winster hall. It was such a great place and everyone said how amazing the building was inside & out. We didnt really use the garden area with it being quite cold but we did have a wander round & we said how lovely it would be to go back in the summer. Would highly recommend from the booking process to the end of the stay 1010
I rented Winster Hall for a large gathering of friends and family for my husband's 70th birthday. It was excellent a huge dining table to seat 16 with a gorgeous woodburner and a massive upstairs living room. It was a very cold week but the house was kept at a comfortable temperature so it was extremely cosy. The kitchen was superb with the Aga providing extra heating and cooking. The local shop is well stocked and run by volunteers and the pub, a 2 minute walk away, is well worth visiting.
We all really enjoyed our stay in Winster . However, we had two showers leak and one wash basin all uncovered immediately on usage, I cannot believe this wasn't picked up by other tenants ? We also had the electricity in the dining room and kitchen lights trip on three occasions ? No tool box . TV's are very outdated and not SMART only one with HDMI which I had to buy. Conservatory needs a good fan which we brought for the winter months as there is no heating in this room.
A wonderful house in a lovely village everything we could possibly have wanted.
